Frozen wetland
Recently we had a period of unusually cold (for Western Washington) weather, and I took this opportunity to visit a small wetland near Lake Stevens which ices over with extended below freezing temperatures. The ice was about three inches thick, with successive below freezing nights trapping gas bubbles in small stacks. The water in the wetland was at most about three feet deep with no current, so I felt reasonably safe walking on the ice.

In some places submerged logs created bubble 'shadows' in the ice:
